Reading in Year 1

Children will be reading every Monday during Reading Afternoon and their book should be returned to school on that day. Please sign your child’s reading record to let us know that they have read their books. A comment on how they are reading at home would also be helpful for us. If your child is a daily reader, different books will be read in school with your child. Your child will also read weekly in a small group during our Guided Reading sessions.

Spelling in Year 1

Children will have a spelling check-up every Monday. New words will be sent home on Tuesday for the children to learn for the following week. Please spend time learning these words with your child; please see your child’s class teacher if you need any support or refer to the spelling handout that was given out at the start of the year.

Maths in Year 1

We expect each child to complete at least 10 mins per week of Sumdog (www.sumdog.com). Please see your child’s reading record for their username and password.
